[WASHINGTON, DC] – The NOBEL Women Lois M. DeBerry Leadership Training and Educational Development Institute, the only network of Black women elected state legislators in the country, is excited to announce the commencement of its hybrid-training program starting January 30, 2025. With NOBEL Women members collectively representing over 20 million Americans, the Institute serves as a critical voice for Black communities, advocating for their needs to media, legislatures, and government.
In collaboration with the Center for American Women in Politics at Rutgers University’s Eagleton Institute of Politics, the Leadership Institute is committed to nurturing and elevating the next generation of Black women leaders in state government, empowering Black women to become public leaders through specialized training programs. The Institute aims to advance Black women in organizational leadership, public office, provide networking opportunities, and offer educational resources.
The Leadership Institute is a highly intensive six-month program, designed to equip participants with the skills necessary to become leaders, strategists, and executives in their respective fields. Each year, a select group of women is chosen through a competitive application process to participate in this unique leadership experience. Fellows engage in comprehensive training that covers all aspects of successful campaign execution, including strategies for attaining board appointments and executive leadership roles. Participants will also gain hands-on experience in conducting candidate and issue campaigns, as well as leading public and private sector policy initiatives.
“This year’s cohort is made up of 25 brilliant women,” says Senator Tonya Anderson of Georgia, NOBEL Women’s National President. “We are excited for these women as they have heeded the call for more black women to shape policy, lead communities, and effect change.”
Since its inception, the Institute has gained national recognition as a premier educational forum, preparing over 200 Black women for public office, board appointments, and advancement in various sectors. NOBEL Women emphasizes the importance of cultivating a culture of succession to ensure continuous, effective leadership.
