Attendees of the 2024 Executive leadership Summit in
New Orleans, LA.

From July 2-7, 2024, NOBEL Women held its Executive Leadership Summit in vibrant New Orleans, Louisiana, bringing together dynamic women leaders from across the country to discuss critical issues impacting their communities. Sponsored by JCPenney, the summit was an empowering platform to explore topics surrounding health, beauty standards, and racial equity. This partnership with JCPenney allowed NOBEL Women to highlight the Creating a Respectful and Open World of Natural Hair (CROWN) Act and to focus on health outcomes for women, particularly mental health.

A Spotlight on Natural Hair & Mental Health: The CROWN Act and Wellness

One of the key highlights of the summit was an impactful session held at the JCPenney Salon, where NOBEL Women used the platform to elevate conversations around the CROWN Act. The legislation seeks to end discrimination based on natural hair in workplaces and schools, advocating for the dignity and respect of women of color who choose to wear their natural hair textures. By partnering with JCPenney, NOBEL Women shined a light on how beauty standards and policies affect self-perception, identity, and mental well-being for women across the nation.

The summit also addressed the importance of mental health, exploring how societal pressures related to beauty and race intersect with mental health challenges for women of color. Thought-provoking discussions centered on how health inequities disproportionately affect women in these communities, urging attendees to continue advocating for more inclusive health policies and support systems.

This collaboration with JCPenney underscored the powerful connection between beauty, health, and equity, offering valuable insights into how these industries can work together to improve outcomes for all women.

Honoring a Trailblazer: Retired Senator Diana Bajoie

A special moment during the summit was a reception honoring one of NOBEL Women’s founding members, retired Louisiana State Senator Diana Bajoie. Known for her trailblazing career, Senator Bajoie made history as the first African American woman elected to the Louisiana State Senate and the first woman to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore. Her contributions to public service and dedication to advancing women’s rights have left an indelible mark on Louisiana politics and beyond.

Surrounded by her peers, Senator Bajoie was celebrated not only for her political accomplishments but also for her unwavering commitment to uplifting women and advocating for racial equity throughout her career. The floral presentation was a heartfelt tribute to her legacy, and the reception provided an opportunity for the next generation of leaders to draw inspiration from her journey.

Looking Forward: Continuing the Conversation

The NOBEL Women Executive Leadership Summit was more than just an event; it was a movement toward real progress in addressing the intersection of race, health, and beauty. The powerful discussions and partnerships, particularly the collaboration with JCPenney, reinforced the importance of racial equity, mental health advocacy, and the celebration of natural beauty.

As we move forward, NOBEL Women will continue to champion these causes and support policies like the CROWN Act, ensuring that future generations of women can thrive in an inclusive world that celebrates their authentic selves.

We extend our deepest gratitude to JCPenney for their sponsorship and support, and we look ahead to next year’s summit as we continue to lead conversations that inspire change.
